One Year Professional Acting Course Presents

Arthur Miller's 'Playing for Time'

Directed by Chris Rozanski

Venue: The Crescent Theatre

PLAYING FOR TIME tells the extraordinary story of the women’s orchestra in Auschwitz.  It centres on Fania Fenelon, a Parisian singer, who is arrested by the Nazis, sent to Auschwitz and there finds herself swept into the orchestra, composed entirely of women prisoners and created to entertain the camp commandants.  As long as the orchestra finds favour, its members are spared the gas chambers.  They are, quite literally, playing for time.

Wednesday 14 July - 7.30pm (after dark discussion)

Thursday 15 July - 7.30pm

Friday 16 July - 2.00pm (after dark discussion)

Friday 16 July - 7.30pm (after dark discussion)

Saturday 17 July - 7.30pm - Graduation Award Ceremony

As part of the performance week the school will host a series of after dark discussions, where the audience will have the opportunity to meet and discuss the evening’s production. A guest speaker will host each evening and provide an invaluable insight into both process and production.

Before the start of the rehearsal process the graduating company of actors spent time in Poland, visiting Auschwitz concentration camp, and including a rare opportunity to meet with survivors of the Holocaust. The company will be on hand after the performance to share their experiences.

Tickets: £10 / £8 concessions

Venue address: The Crescent Theatre, sheepcote st, Birmingham B16 8AE

We also have an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to embark on one of our full time courses

Birmingham Theatre School, in association with City College, will be hosting a Workshop and Performance Day of Arthur Miller’s ‘Playing For Time’ on Friday 16th July 2010.

A morning of practical workshops followed by a performance has been specifically designed for people wishing to gain an insight into life at the theatre school, obtain further information from staff and students, and to work practically with the production team of this year’s graduation show.

Experience for yourself the excitement and enthusiasm shared by all as we celebrate The Professional Acting Course Graduation Show 2010. With a company of over 70 actors, it’s an experience not to be missed.

The cost of the workshop day, which includes a ticket to the main performance in the afternoon, will be just £15.

If you wish to book onto the workshop day please contact the school office on 0121 643 3300 and we can email you an application.
